PARISH ASSEMBLY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

The Christ Cathedral Parish Assembly held on July 12, 2017, was an exciting and energizing evening. About 350 parishioners gathered in the Arboretum for the assembly which was designed to foster a sense of parish unity and to give participants an opportunity to ask questions and offer ideas for the immediate future of the parish. As part of the assembly, participants were asked to write questions on cards. I answered many of the questions and assured everyone that I would answer the other questions in a communication to the whole parish.

For the next few weeks, I am using the Rector’s Column to answer the questions. I am so inspired by the commitment and concern for our parish that is exemplified through the many questions put forward. I hope you will find these responses helpful and look forward to continued conversation as we journey together as Christ Cathedral Parish.

Together in faith,

Very Reverend Christopher Smith, Rector

MINISTRY

Q. Will there be additional training for lay ministers (e.g. Eucharist ministers and lectors) in preparation for becoming a cathedral parish?

A. Yes.It is important that we have uniform standards, practices and procedures as a cathedral parish. Efforts toward achieving the above are in process.

Q. Will we have more meeting space for ministries once the cathedral is open?

A. When the cathedral opens, the lower level of the cathedral will have space for choir rehearsals. The Arboretum will be much more available for gatherings of larger groups. We anticipate being able to better serve and accommodate the many parish activities and ministries.

Q. Will we have a young adult ministry at CCP? By language or mixed?

A. We have a need to expand many of our ministries including ministry to young adults. Pastoral need will give direction to language requirements. In the near future, we hope to partner with the diocese in hosting events and gathering opportunities for young adults on the campus.
